We love to create, we are passionate about producing
Founded in 2009 by Raimon Masllorens and Nèlida Sánchez, Brutal Media develops and produces fiction and non-fiction content for international broadcasters and platforms. We also focus on seeking co-production partnerships for the development of international projects and operate, additionally, as a service production company in Spanish territory.
Since 2024, we have been part of the BBC Studios Global Entertainment group and we are its commercial and production headquarters in Spain.
The Netflix original miniseries Asalto al Banco Central, directed by Daniel Calparsoro and starring Miguel Herrán, María Pedraza, and Hovik Keuchkerian, and The Academy (Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Prime, 3Cat) are some of our recent productions. Among them, we also highlight Killer Book Club (the first Spanish original slasher on Netflix) and the series Welcome to Eden (top 1 worldwide in 48 countries and top 10 in 83 countries on Netflix) and Hockey Girls (Netflix, 3Cat). We have also produced feature documentaries such as Rosa Peral's Tapes (Netflix), The End of the Storm (Sky TV, Liverpool FC, Discovery, Rakuten) and Murder by the Coast (Netflix), as well as the series This is Football (Amazon Prime, for Starbucks).
We have released in cinemas the feature films La Vampira de Barcelona (winner of 5 Gaudí Awards, including Best Film, and the Audience Award at Grimmfest and at Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival) and the romantic comedy I Love you, Stupid (TVE, Netflix, TV3) starring Quim Gutiérrez, Natalia Tena, and Ernesto Alterio.
With our label “THIS IS” we have created a unique way of telling stories through emotions and bringing disciplines such as music, art, and philosophy closer to all audiences. Our originals This is Opera, This is Art, and This is Philosophy have been broadcast in more than 70 territories. We are also responsible for successful factual formats such as El Foraster (3Cat) which, after 9 seasons, continues to be one of the leading programmes in Catalonia, El Paisano (RTVE) or Això no és una cançó (3Cat), a programme selected at INPUT 2024 as an innovative format.
